In 2014, Welch won the Gold Sintering Award by Cookson Gold. Cookson challenged university students to design jewellery that was taylored to the style of Cookson's current jewellery lines, however, using computed-aided design programmes, the winners could then have their work 3D-printed in gold using some of the industry's most up-and-coming technology. The rings in the images are by Maisie Welch and the other winner of the award was (Edinburgh College of Art Graduate), Emily Gore who produced earrings.
